FAQ

  • What ages does club accept?

Celtic Tigers welcomes players across a wide range of ages. We field junior teams from Under 8 through to Under 19, with our youngest players generally starting from around 5-6 years of age.

We also field senior teams for both competitive and social players, providing opportunities to continue playing basketball beyond the junior age groups.

  • When does the basketball season commence?

Ballarat Basketball runs two competitions each year: Summer and Winter.

The Summer season typically runs from early October to late March, while the Winter season generally runs from late April through to late September. Competitions usually pause during Victorian school holiday periods, with exact season dates confirmed by Ballarat Basketball each year.

  • When, where and how often is training?

We utilise three venues for training:

    1. Selkirk Stadium (989 Norman Street, Wendouree VIC 3355, Australia)
    2. Buxton Minerdome (994 Grevillea Road, Wendouree VIC 3355, Australia)
    3. Mount Rowan Secondary College (453-457 Forest Street, Wendouree VIC 3355, Australia)

We have access to these facilities on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons throughout the season. Exact training times depend on coach and venue availability, but sessions generally take place between 4:00 pm and 8:00 pm, with earlier timeslots prioritised for younger teams.

Teams are expected to train once a week.

  • Do I need to buy a uniform?

New players are required to purchase club shorts, which can be ordered as part of the registration process.

Game-day singlets are provided on loan at no additional cost for the entire season.

Players are responsible for keeping their singlet clean and in good condition and returning it to the club at the end of the season. Failure to do so will result in a $50 fine.

  • I'm new to basketball. How do I join the club?

Celtic Tigers is one of Ballarat’s largest basketball clubs, with strong demand for places across our junior teams.

To ensure every new player can be placed in an appropriate team with suitable coaching and support, all new players must first join our waiting list before registering with the club.

If you are interested in joining Celtic Tigers, please complete our Expression of Interest form. We will contact you when a suitable place becomes available.

Please note that we rarely accept new players mid-season. New players are generally allocated to teams at the beginning of the next season, subject to team availability and coaching capacity.

  • I currently play with another club. How do I join the club?

The process for joining Celtic Tigers is slightly different for players wishing to transfer from another basketball club.

Before registering with Celtic Tigers, transferring players must:

    1. Contact the club by emailing celtictigersregister@gmail.com to discuss the proposed transfer.
    2. Complete our New Player Expression of Interest form. This allows us to confirm that we have an appropriate team placement and coaching capacity before a transfer proceeds.
    3. Receive written approval from Celtic Tigers to proceed with the transfer.
    4. Complete a Ballarat Basketball club clearance form. A clearance must be approved by both the player’s current club and Celtic Tigers before the player can transfer and register with us.

Please note that the clearance period is only open for a limited time, generally forthe last 6 weeks of each season.

Clearance forms and information about the relevant dates are available on the BBA website under Domestic Competition.

Please do not submit a clearance request until Celtic Tigers has confirmed that we can accommodate you within the club.

  • How does the club communicate with members?

Celtic Tigers primarily uses our private Facebook page to share important updates and information with our members.
