Purpose
This policy establishes a consistent and equitable approach to the payment of match day fees by players representing Celtic Tigers Basketball Club.
General Principle
Players who are named members of a team are responsible for paying an equal share of their team's match day fee for every scheduled game, regardless of whether they attend or play.
This reflects the principle that match day costs are incurred by the team as a whole and should not be redistributed among other players because an individual player is unavailable. It also provides certainty for Team Managers when collecting fees and ensures that the financial impact of player absences does not fall on teammates.
Accordingly, named players remain liable for match day fees where they are unavailable for reasons including personal commitments, holidays, illness, or a suspension imposed by the Ballarat Basketball Association or another relevant governing body.
Exception – Extended Injury
The only exemption from match day fees applies where:
- a named player is unable to play due to injury for a continuous period exceeding four (4) weeks; and
- the Team Manager has been notified of the injury and the expected period of unavailability.
The exemption applies from the date the Team Manager is notified and continues until the player returns to the team.
Suspensions, Short-term injuries or illnesses that result in a player missing individual games do not qualify for an exemption.
Named Players and Fill-in Players
For the purposes of this policy:
- A named player is a player who is officially registered as a member of the team and appears on the team's playing roster.
- A fill-in player is a player who is not a named member of the team and participates only to assist the team when required.
The match day fee obligations under this policy apply to all named players.
Fill-in players are governed by the Club's Fill-in Player Policy. Under that policy, fill-in players are not required to pay match day fees unless they exceed the Club's permitted number of fill-in games, currently more than five (5) games for the same team.
Once this limit is exceeded, the player must either:
- pay the applicable match day fees when participating as a fill-in, in accordance with the Fill-in Player Policy; or
- be formally added to the team's roster as a named player, after which the match day fee obligations under this policy apply.
Administration
The Team Manager is responsible for administering match day fees in accordance with this policy.
At the beginning of each season, the Team Manager must communicate this policy to all players and/or their parents or guardians, as applicable, so that match day fee obligations are understood before the season commences.
Any disputes or exceptional circumstances concerning the application of this policy should be referred to the Club Committee for determination.
